January intersession (Jan. 18-22)

Our January intersession is coming up starting on Monday, Jan. 18 and running through Friday, Jan. 22. Classes will not be in session and our meal service will be suspended during this break. To find community resources for meals and groceries during this time, visit www.tulsaschools.org/familyresources.

Extension of Semester One

This has been a challenging year as we have all worked to adjust to the new realities of teaching and learning in a distance model. We have students who are struggling, and we want to support them by creating opportunities to catch up and get back on track academically. To this end, we will extend the first semester until February 5 to provide additional time for our students to demonstrate their learning and improve their grades by submitting and/or redoing key assignments, quizzes and tests.

The second semester will now begin on Monday, Feb. 8 and run through Tuesday, June 8.

• It is important to know that this is not an “academic amnesty;” students who are behind in or failing classes must use the additional two weeks to engage in their classes and make up incomplete work. 
• Students who are already on track academically should use these two weeks to continue engaging in their classes and participate in available enrichment activities. 
• Teachers will share the key assignments, quizzes, and/or tests that will remain open. 

All elementary students should:

• Follow their daily schedules and attend daily live Zooms as much as possible - participating in live classes is critical. 
• Complete the outstanding key assignments provided by their teachers by Feb. 5; 
  • Students who are behind will be asked to make up or complete no more than 10 assignments in English language arts and no more than 10 assignments in Math. 
  • Students who are passing their classes with a satisfactory grade will have the opportunity to complete enrichment assignments as well as personalized learning. Students can also redo designated assignments to demonstrate a higher level of mastery. 
• Contact their teachers with questions: ask questions during classes, use the Zoom chat feature to ask questions, and use teacher office hours if they are available.  
• Use their school’s new Care and Connect hours for additional academic support and tutoring.

Your child’s teacher will be in touch starting on Monday, Jan. 25 to provide more information about expectations for your child during the semester extension.

Tulsa Responds internet assistance

Tulsa Responds is helping Tulsans participate in virtual learning and remote work from home by providing hands-on assistance with internet providers and resources. Tulsa Responds can even help set up your internet subscription and arrange for installation if you qualify. You could be eligible for free or subsidized interest service if you meet the following criteria:

• You are not a current internet subscriber;
• You have a student enrolled in Tulsa Public Schools, Jenks, Union, or a participating charter school; and
• You participate in a federal assistance program.

2021-2022 enrollment

Enrollment is open for the 2021-2022 school year! To help ensure that our parents and families have the information they need to make enrollment decisions for their students, we have scheduled several enrollment info-sessions over the next month. District info-sessions that are scheduled for next week are listed below. Families can watch these info-sessions at www.tulsaschools.org/watchlive. More information for school-specific meetings can be found at www.tulsaschools.org/keydates. Dates and details are also included in the Enrollment Events Calendar that is sent out via email every Sundays.

Early College High School
(EDGE - Earn a Degree, Graduate Early)

Graduate from high school with both a diploma and a free college degree from Tulsa Community College! Beginning in the 2021-22 school year, we will launch an exciting new program offered at Memorial High School and McLain High School. Students who are currently in 8th grade and will be in 9th grade in the 2021-22 school year can apply for a spot in the Early College High School program.

Applications are open now – learn more at www.tulsaschools.org/earlycollege and submit your application by Friday, Feb. 12.

We will be hosting info sessions via Zoom on the following dates and times:

• Monday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.
• Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 4 p.m. - 5 p.m.
• Monday, Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
