Michala Davis has been selected as the 2022-2023 Kerr Elementary Teacher of the Year!

Michala joined Tulsa Public Schools in 2018 and has worked at Kerr all five years. She currently teaches 1st grade. She said she has known since a young age that she wanted to be a teacher, and it even was a result on her career aptitude test in middle school. 

"I took this as confirmation as teaching being my calling in life," said Michala. "As I progressed through college and student teaching, working toward my teaching certificate, I continued to enjoy working with students and helping to grow little minds!"

Michala said she loves getting to use creativity and silliness to get to know her students and build trust every day. She even has class pets!

"As seen in my photo, I have two guinea pigs who are my classroom's class pets, Leroy and Fester. They are great motivators to earn the 'Guinea Bros' pass or feed them carrots while their cage is being cleaned! Pets bring so much extra joy to the classroom."

She said Kerr also has two other support animals. Dogs Hope and Ko Ko help provide a positive environment at the school.
