The Kerr dismissal procedure helps ensure students leave school in the custody of an authorized adult. Safety and Security is the number one priority during this busy part of the school day.
Students are allowed to be dropped off at 7:05 a.m. in the morning and enter into the gym. The first bell rings at 7:20 a.m. and the second bell rings at 7:30 a.m. After 7:30 a.m. students are considered tardy.
At the end of the day students are either considered car riders, bus riders, neighborhood, or park walkers. Every student has a dismissal number. Bus riders are dismissed first, Car riders will begin to be dismissed. Once the car riders get started, there is a brief break for the neighborhood walkers to be escorted out and around the corner. Park walkers are dismissed last and will exit from the North end of the building.
Parents must wait until the buses have entered into the parking lot and then they may begin to line up in two lines to pick up their students. A staff member will walk along the car lines calling numbers via a two-way radio to the inside staff who will send out the students. Once a significant number of students have been called, the group will be escorted by staff members and safety patrol members to the line of cars. In some instances, if a parent needs to walk up and pick up their child, they should wait on the benches under the front awning and their child will be called, once the majority of the students have been dismissed.
Parents will identify their child’s dismissal procedure at the beginning of the school year and any changes will need to be documented by a note written to the child’s teacher. No changes to dismissal routes will be accepted by phone. If a parent wishes to come up to the school in person and speak to the office staff to change a dismissal route, that is acceptable as long as it is before 2:00p.m.
No early pick-ups will be allowed after 2:00 p.m. If a student has an appointment or needs to be picked up early, parents will need to be at the school prior to this time.
